Boring finance
for serious operators.

Senior, embedded CFO work for $1M to $25M businesses. We do the work most owners hate, so they can run the business they actually built.

Six standing engagements.
We run them. You run the business.

We’re not your bookkeeper. We’re not your CPA. We’re the finance partner sitting between them and you, making sure the right work happens at the right time.

01The close

Books closed by the 10th, without you chasing your bookkeeper.

We sit on top of QuickBooks (or whatever stack you're on) and sign off so you walk into the month with clean numbers.

Foundation
02The map

A P&L that breaks down by service line, job, and tech.

Maintenance vs. install. Residential vs. commercial. Truck-by-truck contribution. So you stop guessing where the money comes from.

Clarity
03The forecast

A 13-week cash flow you actually trust.

Rolling weekly, tied to your AR aging, payroll, and seasonality. Not a spreadsheet that pretends every month is the same.

Runway
04The rebuild

Pricing built on real margin data, not what your competitor charges.

We rebuild your price book from labor burden, truck cost, and shop overhead up. Usually 5 to 10 points of margin inside 90 days.

Leverage
05The session

One working session a month. What’s working, what isn’t, what to do.

Ninety minutes with you and your GM. No slide deck. We leave with a one-page list of decisions.

Strategy
06The line

A number you can text when something feels off.

A vendor wants terms. A bank asks for a covenant model. A buyer slides into your DMs. They text or call, we pick up the same day.

On-call

Wall Street rigor.
Main Street focus.

Questions, answered

The questions every operator asks first.

Q.01What's the difference between you and my CPA?

Your CPA looks backward; they file the return, keep you compliant, and tell you what already happened. We look forward; we sit between you and your CPA, translating the numbers into decisions about pricing, capacity, hiring, and cash. We don’t replace your CPA. We make their work useful before April.

Q.02Are you going to make me change my bookkeeping software?

No. We work on top of QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or whatever you’ve got. If your stack is genuinely holding you back we’ll say so. But switching software is rarely the actual problem. Most of the time the data is fine; the questions being asked of it aren’t.

Q.03How long does it take to see results?

Three weeks to clean books and a baseline model. Sixty to ninety days to see margin move. The pricing work is usually the fastest lever; we’ve added 5 to 10 points of gross margin inside one season by rebuilding the price book on real labor and truck cost.

Q.04What if I'm not ready for a full retainer?

Start with a paid diagnostic. Two weeks, fixed fee. You get a written read on your P&L, a 13-week cash forecast, and a one-page list of the three highest-impact things to fix. If we both want to keep going after that, we roll into a monthly retainer. If not, you keep the work.

Q.05Are you going to try to buy my business?

No. Boring Capital is a services firm, not a search fund. We don’t take equity, we don’t broker your sale, and we’re not lining up a buyer in the background. If a buyer comes knocking later, we’ll help you read the offer — on your side of the table, on the clock.

Q.06How much does it cost?

Retainers start in the low five figures per month and scale with revenue and complexity. We quote a flat number with no per-hour billing, so you should never hesitate to text. We’d rather talk through your specifics on the call than throw a range at you in writing.

Worth a 30-minute conversation?

Bring your last 12 months of revenue. We’ll bring three ideas to grow your margin, whether or not you ever hire us.

No deck. No pitch. Just a real conversation.
